ABOUT
I hold a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology and Master of Science from the University of Sydney, as well as a Master’s degree in forensic psychology from the University of Otago in New Zealand. I am a registered clinical psychologist in Australia and hold full membership with ACPA and as a Board approved supervisor.
Research work:
I have over 15 years experience as a researcher and currently hold a Research Associate role at the Brain and Mind Centre of the University of Sydney. I also provide independent contractor research services as a consultant. My specialty is working with qualitative methods, especially in relation to exploring experiences of novel or under-researched mental health interventions, as well as in medical education, training, and workforce development. I assist with research & study design, data analysis, and knowledge translation. Qualitative methods I use, among others, are reflexive thematic analysis, interpretive description, narrative inquiry, participatory informed methods, narrative synthesis, & qualitative systematic review. I also have experience coordinating large-scale multi-site clinical trials. I have published 30+ peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals.
Psychological therapy:
I currently work in private practice with children and adults of all ages who are experiencing challenges in areas including anxiety, mood and depression, psychosis, relationships, personality, self-esteem, and adjustment to challenging life events. I predominantly use an approach called Intensive Short Term Psychodynamic Therapy (ISTDP) in order to address the deep roots of people's presenting symptoms and suffering. Previously, I have worked extensively using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), schema therapy, trauma-informed therapies, narrative therapy, and psychodynamic approaches. I have a special interest in working with longstanding difficulties related to early life trauma, and attachment theory informs all my work.
Also important:
I love a good crème brûlée, & I buy far too many books.
